HOME!

I'M HOME! I can't say that and post it from anywhere else, so there it is before I leave tomorrow.
Everyone else is in bed. I'm in the library. The fire died out a long time ago, not even the embers are glowing anymore. But the Christmas tree is up. Dad bought the blinking lights this year, and they're doing their thing. I just finished a draft and forgot to drink my tea in the process. I'm happy the draft is done, but I'm a little sad since I really like tea. I love these moments of stillness between frenzy when I can actually recall the reason for the frenzy and be thankful for it. Right now, resumes, internships, contacts, Malaysia, investments, bank accounts, weddings, stories, and poetry don't really matter. I'm just a girl with her feet on an ottoman drinking out of a snowman mug trying to remember when I made that ornament my cat just whacked off the tree. Fifth grade, I think. It's nice to just be at home. It's nice to just be. Try it sometime.

Hammertime!

MC Hammer was a star, and you can't touch that. If you didn't know or don't believe, Youtube can help. I just finished a three-hour-long date with a Business Law review, and after going to bed at five this morning (yes, there's a story) I can't think of anything better to do than make a post. This post was inspired by my friends Rika and Maranatha, two of the brightest stars in my life, and the following e-mail from Rika. Background: It's almost volleyball season and we have a team. What!

Hey Ladies-

Welcome to the most tubular time of your life.  Delicious.  It's Hammer Time.  What does that mean exactly?  It means that you are now officially on the most stellar volleyball team in the history of the world.  Our inspiration comes from the great musical artist, M.C. Hammer, as he illustrates what it means to spike the ball...in style that is.

Our uniforms will be 80's style only.  Break out the spandex!  Pull on the hammer pants!  Leggings and neon socks!  Converse!  Poofy bangs and side ponytails.  The opposing team will be blinded by our bright colors and wicked good looks as we slam the ball into their faces.

We have a team choreographer, Maranatha, who studied the dance styles and routines of the late 80's and she will coordinate a little number for us to do to warm up and instill fear into the eyes of the other team.

Don't worry.  We will have some practicing too...How about this Sunday at 5?  In the gym?  If we do a little peppering and serve practice to see what skills we have to work with.  Jessica Johnston will be the co-captain.  You were all chosen to be a part of this team for a reason, as you have demonstrated that you carry the spirit of the Hammer inside of you.  A soft glow...

Peace, love, and mystic pizza,

Rika G

Confession: I don't really play volleyball. But rockin' to the eighties is a whole different story.
Moral: I love my friends.
